What is Welcoming Week?

Welcoming Week is an annual celebration dedicated to building stronger, more inclusive communities where everyone feels at home. It’s part of a nationwide movement led by Welcoming America that brings together neighbors from all backgrounds — including long-time residents, newcomers, immigrants, and refugees — to connect, share, and celebrate the rich cultural fabric of our communities. Through a series of events, gatherings, and shared experiences, Welcoming Week highlights the power of belonging and the importance of creating spaces where every voice is valued and every person feels seen.

At its heart, Welcoming Week is about unity, understanding, and shared prosperity. Across the region and the country, communities use this week to host inclusive activities — from cultural festivals, potlucks, and storytelling events to resource fairs and community conversations — that encourage connection and mutual respect across differences. These celebrations strengthen the social fabric of our towns and cities by creating opportunities to build new friendships, learn from one another, and recognize the unique contributions each neighbor brings to the community.

Inclusive Moorhead proudly participates in Welcoming Week as a way to celebrate our community’s diversity and commitment to belonging. Through our local Welcoming Week events, we invite residents and visitors alike to come together, explore different traditions, and deepen connections with one another. By fostering welcoming spaces and uplifting inclusive values, we help ensure that Moorhead continues to be a place where everyone — no matter where they come from — feels welcomed, appreciated, and empowered to thrive.
